I finally got into Crossbill turf with my minidisc recording yoke this weekend....and got about 4 seconds of crossbill!.
I think this is a 'Glip' Crossbill to use the Sound Approach's notation because of the tick shaped trace....can anyone confirm or deny this?. There is also a chaffinch in there loudly at c. 0.5s and then more quietly at c 1s intervals thereafter.
Cheers,
Phil

Well done Phil !
Yep it is a 4E Common Crossbill - I can't bring myself to call them "glip" I am afraid ! You have a typical Fc4 (flight call 4 )there. I recorded some recently with (well developed )juvs in "Upper" Deeside :eek!:

Thanks for the confirmation Linz!. I recorded it in Sweden, was over there for the weekend. The minidisc + atr55 combo seems to work pretty well once I got the hang of getting into recording mode!.
Is there a reference available with the nomenclature you use?. At the moment i just have the sound approach book, but would be nice to be 'speaking the same language'.

Hi Phil,
Send me a private email with your address and I will send Summers et al as a PDF.

PS thats a interesting record for me too ! 4E's are scarcer here this year but are usually the predominant call type every few years or so. Obviously they are still present in Sweden which is handy to know.
