Hoylake Area [cheshire]. Information Needed

I'm off to the Hoylake area early in the morning and would be greatful for any tips as to where to look for birds in that or any other area on route from Stoke on Trent. I have plenty of time [dawn till dusk].

Hey Jim,

The whole area really, along the coast, from New Brighton Lighthouse, all the way up to Hoylake can be very good for coastal birds. (Not sure of the tide times) The marine lake at West Kirby (same area) can be very productive. Check out the path that separates the lake from the sea; from a distance it looks like people are walking on water! ;)

There are also surrounding cliff areas to head for; head for Thurstaston Common. Im sure that will produce various Warblers and passerines. Theres also a place called Parkgate, in Heswall. Good place for various owls; including the regular Little Owls in the open field behind the carpark.

If you are an RSPB member Inner Marsh Farm might be worth a look as it's only a slight detour from your route.

You only need a permit for groups of 6 or more people. The thing to keep an eye on are the tide times. These are displayed at the point from where you can walk across to the islands at low tide. Here's a link to a useful website which gives you all the information you need to know.

I've got to go back to Northwich, and I wanted just to keep on the Chester Road only, not venturing too far north in order to get me back by early evening. Have I any other possibilities on my route to the Wirral?

then there is Delamere forest which isn't too far away. If you're coming up through Staffordshire it may be worth taking a detour off the motorway to have a look round Doxey marshes which is a well known wetland site - see link below ...

Come off at junction 14 of the M6 if you fancy that. The website gives more details of how to find it.

If you mean Pennington Flash etc then yes you can. We went for the 1st time 2 weeks ago and there is lots to see-4 good hides. Near to that is the Leeds-Liverpool canal and there are 3 or 4 more flashes within walking distance-again lots to see
