View Full Version : Canon from Kerso-cash back ??

Can anyone tell me specifically-if I buy a Canon lense from Kerso can I get the cash back offer. Ian (Kerso) tells me yes because he supplies a UK invoice. Someone else tells me no because you have to return the bar code off the box and this will tell Canon it's not a UK model.
Has anyone had experience with this ?
Thanks

I bought a 100-400 lens last year from 123fstop another ebay seller, the lens was shiped from the states & canon gave me my £105 cash back no problem at all.

I'm interested to hear that we can get cash backs on foreign sourced lenses as that means the Hong Kong eBay dealers will be offering even better value - if the cash backs really work. But I participated in a thread on the Amateur Photographer forums where the opinion was that cash backs would only be paid on the basis of valid serial numbers for the country in question. I don't know whether that was guesswork or fact. Here is the thread....

I also bought from Kerso during the last cash-back offer and it worked fine for me too (great deal from Kerso as well by the way). I bought a 300mm f4.0 and got around £100 cash-back (can't remember exact amount).
Cheers

I have bought from Kerso several times and on each occasion received my cash back from Canon. If you read the Canon conditions, you can only claim the cash back if you are claiming from one of the countries listed, it doesn't say anything about where the article was sourced

To quote from item 2 of the terms and conditions....
"The promotion runs in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. To be able to claim the cashback, the products must be purchased in one of these countries and you have to be a consumer of an EEA country (i.e. the EU, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein) or Switzerland......"
I'm not clear on the interpretation of these words. If I am sitting in the UK and press the "Buy Now" button on the www.ebay.co.uk website for an item located in Hong Kong and sold by a dealer registered in Hong Kong does that mean that "I have bought the product in the UK" since that is where I was when I made the purchase, even though the product was not in the UK when I bought it?
I think there is some ambiguity in the wording and interpretation thereof. But I am not a lawyer.

Surely the point is where the product was purchased not where it was sourced by the dealer.

I'd agreed with this one, I'd guess that the 3 bar codes are only serial number / lens type and something else - I'd very much doubt Canon have time to stick different bar codes on different lenses depending on where they we shipping them to.
Proof of purchase is all they need for a warranty repair / cashback claim so as Ian gives UK addressed invoices I'd doubt you have to worry - maybe this will be different with someone like Digitalrev...?

Thanks for your thoughts on this. I probably will go with DigitalRev and see how my luck goes. The price there looks good for the Canon 100-400 with 2 Hoya Pro filters for ~£840 delivered and with a no-VAT guarantee. To get cash back on that deal would be a nice bonus :)

Tdodd, Before you do give 123fstop a ring the guy is called Tony07970521985, I get most of my gear from him his prices are one of the best you will find and he is very trust worthy.
I just bought my 500mm f4 from him 7 it only took four days.

Thanks for the heads up on 123fstop. I'm aware of the trader on eBay. The price is only £3 cheaper than DigitalRev but without the two Hoya Pro filters, which are themselves worth ~£60 or more. I also note from the item description that 123fstop say the "UPC code has been carefully removed for promotional purposes.", which I presume means the bar code required for the cash back.
So with DR I should be between £60-£110 better off depending on whether or not I can successfully claim the cash back. I've bought a few things from Hong Kong eBay traders and also Onestop-Digital so I have no concerns about going that route. If I didn't want the filters, which in fact do, I could actually get the lens plus a no-name UV filter for £794 from here....

and with a bit of luck still claim the cash back too :)

Tdodd when I buy off 123fstop I dont buy through ebay which makes it cheaper. The bar code was still on my box and I claimed the cash back for my 100 - 400 which at the time was £105. I know you are not getting filters but weigh up the balance.

Hmmmmn,
an interesting one here - thought I'd better share it as I'd mentioned it in my original post above...
I've sent my 20D, 100-400 and 17-85 off to Canon for calibration as I wasn't too happy with the body / 100-400 setup (front focussing when wide open and rather soft when using AI Servo focus mode even in really good light) and the confirmation of receipt note they sent me said at the end of the body details.. " 20D (serial number) UK ".
But nothing at all like that for either of the lenses' origins (even though they were both from the UK).
Dave.
