I recently left my Ultravid in the car with the windows closed on a very HOT day. It cooked all day to the point where a spare Zeiss eyepiece cover developed that whitish film on its surface. What is that? Anyway, the Ultravid's focus mechanism operated pretty much the way it does in the winter and, as I fully expected, the optics were unchanged.

Okay, I'll be next....A propos of a set of very odd but addictive threads about Swaro and Leica bins, and a question that arose regarding the waterproofing of the former, I tried to drown my 10x42 EL's. Some of you might find this behaviour verging on the criminal, but if you'd seen the threads (NO, don't go there!) you might begin to understand what the human mind is capable of in moments of quiet desperation. Suffice to say that the Bins were submerged for 20 minutes in a bucket of cold water (it wasn't supposed to be that long, but my kids distracted me and I forgot about them...the bins that is, not the kids). On retrieving my bins, wiping the lenses and giving them a bit of a shake, they were absolutely fine, and I'd swear the focussing-wheel is smoother. There is a thread somewhere asking what 'Shock-Proof' really means in terms of binos. My EL's are cowering somewhere in a corner, they know I have a 3-pound lump-hammer in the shed.........
