Hi
just bought the 30d and I cannot get my images to download to windows 98. I have installed the software and have set my cameraa to transfer all images but the computer will not connect to the camera - do I need to download any extra drivers to make it work?

regards
Neil

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but you must have Win98 SE (second edition) for USB to work, and then, sometimes it wont ! (in my experience anyway).

Do you have other USB devices working OK ?

Hi,

Yes I have windows 98 SE version. I have two usb sockets and have used them for my digital camera (samsung nv10) which uses a usb connection and some other items I have. The computer is quite old though.

Not sure if it is releated but I also bought JOBO Giga One and this is not connecting to it either?

I am planning on a new PC but was then wondering if the 30d and JOBO device would work with Microsoft Vista OS - or shoud I make sure I get the XP OS?

thanks
Neil

I am sure both devices will work with Vista - both Vista and XP have a system that allows you to install drivers as if you were running an earlier version of Windows, this can be useful if you ahve a device or software that is not compatible with a current OS. As the 30D is a current model I would be very surprised if you had any problems using it with Vista, a friend uses a 400D with Vista and has no problems.

Are you using a USB hub? If yes, is it connected to the main supply or receive power from the PC? If it receives power from the PC I noticed once that there can be no power enough to feed the hub and the devices connected

My memory of USB on win98SE is that the drivers must be installed BEFORE you plug the USB device in for the first time. If you don't it gets half set up, any you have no end of trouble trying to fix it.
I gave up and used a £4 card reader instead.

It may have something to do with the Version of Usb you have ...
Glad you sorted it,
John,
