Hi,
Bit of a hike but if you're dead set on kingfisher one of the best is Rye Meads RSPB reserve in Hertfordshire. Pair presently courting and looking good for another successful breeding period. There is a hide overlooking the man made bank where they are, with posts placed outside the holes where they frequently perch. Watched male and female bird on same perch last week. Superb views and managed to get a few reasonable photos with my coolpix hand held through the scope. Distance from hide to perch, 15metres. Great photo opportunities but probably 150 mile trip there.
Any more details required then PM me
regards,
Jono

Hi Mate - if you're still looking at this thread!! We live near Lincoln and often go to Potteric Carr near Doncaster. There are regular sightings of the Kingfisher, I saw it a couple of weeks ago on the mother drain. Also very good for Bittern amongst other things.
Also Old Moor RSPB near Wath on Dearne has regular sightings at one particular hide just near the entrance on the right hand side. We had one hovering just in front of the hide, unluckily the sun was fairly low directly opposite!!
Probably closer to you is Blacktoft sands - but the sightings are usually too far away to get decent photos.
Hope this helps.

Marston Sewage Treatment Works, walk past the site under the railway bridge and follow the path to the river Witham then walk about 300m and the first public footpath sign where there is a large crossing across the river and wait there ?
I have been there twice so far this year and had two flybys, i think its a pair ?
Had some great views last year all throw the year, plus seen KF at Barkston just by the bridge near the little carpark just walk along the river to the large bridge and sit on the big concrete block.
