Hi All

Well ,the weather really finally looks like taken a downer for a few days with showers forecast from today until Early Sunday with scattered thunderstorms, dont want to get caught in them as they can be nasty violent little devils at this time of year.

After the euphoria of 2 days finally in La Janda.it was back to business at my Avocado orchard site on the 24th.Even as I opened the nets before first light had a few heavy spots of rain, but fortunately did not come to much and we were soon back to blue skies and high temps by Mid day but as usual by then the wind was well up from the East and had to pack in for the day.

Things we subsequently a little quieter than usual but still agood mix of resident birds and trans saharan migrants.

Birds Ringed as follows

1 GARDEN WARBLER
4 WILLOW WARBLERS
2 CHAFFINCH
5 CHIFFCHAFFS (NOMINATE RACE)
1 BLACKCAP
1 ROBIN
1 COMMON WHITETHROAT
1 PIED FLYCATCHER

Retraps as follows

2 BLACKCPAS
7 BLACKBIRDS

Still trapping local Blackcaps here,no Northern birds yet.,also first Pied Flycatcher of the Autumn.

The 28th found me at the ringing site up in foothills of Sierra Crestellina where we had a lot more nets up than usual but there still just are not the numbers of birds passing through this site.

It looks like this site is going to be similar to another that I have in this area where the numbers of birds turn up late Autumn and Winter through to early Spring and rest of time quiet.

All together we had 4 x 60 ',2 x 40',1x 20',1 x 30' and a 60',40' in tandem.

New Birds as follows

2 COMMON REDSTARTS
2 PIED FLYCATCHERS
2 BLACKCAPS
3 BLACKBIRDS
1 HOUSE SPARROW
1 GARDEN WARBLER
1 BLUE ROCK THRUSH
1 STONECHAT

Retraps as follows

3 SARDINIAN WARBLERS

On the upside Pied Fly and Garden warbler were ringing ticks for the site and the Blue Rock Thrush was the 3rd.juvenile to be ringed here, and 1 of the Blackcaps was a northern migrant with a wing length of 77mm.

No more ringing planned this week, have to do a bit of lane clearance at a couple of sites ready for the late Autumn push.

On Friday I am picking up 2 UK ringers who are staying at my apt.for 10 days and taking part in my Spanish ringing programme.

It will be an intensive 10 days ringing so things will be quiet from me until they leave and then there will be a torrent of ringing reports.

Unfortunately the weather forecast until early Sunday is not too pretty.
