Assuming you have the wav files on your PC you can download a free programme like dbpoweramp to convert to mp3 files

This seems to be a 30-day trial only to convert .wav to .mp3, which requires credit card details etc.?

Audacity
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/
is a free, open-source editor for PC, mac and Linux which can export to mp3 and let you trim out any dross. You need the mp3 plugin as well - how to do that is described here for the Windows platform
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/windows
However, it does also depend on what your digital camera puts out. Panasonic ones, for example, use mov for which you need Apple Quicktime to play. If you want to export from that you'd need to export the sound to wav using Quicktime pro ($30-ish) and then use something Audacity to convert to mp3, or use Audacity to record the sound while quicktime regular is playing it (free, but a bit more complicated to get working).
The mic in a digital camera is usually intended for notes by the photographer, and the usual limitation in sound quality of note-takers apply

though digicams seem a bit better that digital note-takers at the job you'll still have to be very close for a good recording and handling noise is a problem.

Apologies-I thought it was free when I got it. There are several freeware programmes available at http://www.mp3-converter.com/mp3_converter_freeware.htm if Pertiee's link does not come up trumps

No problem, Mark. Thanks for the suggestion - If I could trust myself and them to cancel in 30 days I'd use it but I've been stung in the past like that. Pertiee's link is great for converting MP3 to AAC and creating Ipod Videos etc. but it ain't any good for WAV to MP3 either. Suspect it was a plug for his product which is fine for what it does but useless for me. Going to try some of the other suggestions now.

Graham,
There are a few programs on the site (Pertiee's link), are you sure you downloaded the: Free Mp3 Wma Converter V1.6.0 rather than the Ipod video converter for Free V1.0?
The Mp3 Wma Converter seems fine to me.

I am searching for a batch conversion program. I have 800 WAV files I want to convert to MP3 with a single click (preferably for free, I have allready bought an audio program but this one did not have it).
Who can help me out?
edit: dbpoweramp does it! (only for 21 days, but I only need it once)
