Nikon scopes

Hi I'm a new old boy. Am seeking a scope to attach my Nikon 5000 to. I have noticed many recomendations, but none for Nikon scopes.
Is there a reason ?

I've noticed some preference for European equipment, of all sorts, on this forum. American reviewers seem to be more equally split between Japanese and European. Have a look at Better View Desired for opinions on Nikon scopes.

Hi Jim and a very big welcome to Birdforum.net from all the admin and moderators here. We hope you enjoy the site.

I decided this topic deserved it's own thread, so I split it from the original thread that you posted to.

I must admit that I see very few Nikon scopes out in the field, they do offer excellent optics with their ED type scopes. Personally, I found one or two of Nikon models slightly unbalanced in my hands but that's not likely to be a problem for many people.

Nikon are about to release a new 82mm ED scope, and I expect a very favourable reviews in many magazines.

Nikon make their own digiscoping adapters to attach their cameras to their own scope's eyepieces, so that's a bonus for Nikon scope users (their eyepieces can be a problem for third-party adapters like the Digimount and L.C.E.)

I have a Nikon RAII spotter scope and a Coolpix 4500 and use Nikons owns adaptors to connect the two items together, which they do very easily and safely. I have only just started digiscoping with this combo and although my results are not yet masterpieces I am improving all the time so by and large I am very satisfied with the nikon combo especially as it is one of the cheaper scopes on offer, but to my eyes still gives good results..

Both myself and my friend Barry Stewart use Nikon 78ED with Nikon Coolpix 4500's. I am a mere beginner at digiscoping, while Barry has been at it for longer. Have a look at some of his pix on surfbirds.com and click on Latest Rarity Photographs. A picture is = to 1000 words.

Hi Geoff, Saw your thread and wanted to find out how you like using the CP4500 with your scope...I'm considering a Nikon scope and have found all the kit to connect to the scope but can't locate the bracket and cable release that fits the CP4500. Do you have any info on the bracket??

Hi Neil,

At present I do not have a cable release with my Coolpix, but having had a chance to view different sorts last weekend I am going to get the eagleeye bracket and cable release. Eagleeye do a generic bracket, but you can't open the battery cover with it in place, so I am going for the "wing bracket", which would allow a extend-a-pro sunshade to be added as well, if you want. Having said that, when the camera is swivelled the xtend-a-pro cannot be swung out of the way, so I will get the velco fixing version!

What I do know if that almost everyone say DO NOT get the Nikon remote cable release 'cos they break down with alarming regularity!

There are lots of threads on here about cable releases if you want see what others say about them.

Oh, and in case you haven't come across it, the eagleeye site is www.eagleeyeuk.com.

PS I have a Nikon ED78 scope and 4500 coolpix, and although I haven't been digiscoping very long I find the combination works very well.
