Since all the other Young Birders are making quizzes, I decided to make one too. Here are all the rules:

-Every photo I post will have a specific number of points on it. Whoever guesses the species of bird in the photo will earn that number of points.

-I will not give any hints unless anyone asks, and if they do I will PM one to them. But if you ask for a hint and get the species right, I will take 2 points off of it.

-I will give 1 point to anyone who tells whether it is juvenile, adult, winter, breeding, male, female, etc

-The first person to earn 150 points will win but I might have to change this depending on the number of photographs I have.

-You may only submit one bird name at a time.

-The birds do not neccesarily have to be ABA area

-If there is more than one bird in the photograph, you may put in all the bird names. If you get one of the species names wrong, The whole answer will be counted wrong and I will not tell you which ones you got right.

o:D o:) Sorry I made it so hard, btu it adds to the challenge!!!:-O

Note: all the photos were either taken by me or my parents

Heres the first one; fairly easy. I'm giving it ten points... http://img126.imageshack.us/my.php?image=dsc04504rl8.jpg

Hmm... It kinda reminded me of a Skua of some sort. I assumed pale-phase Arctic because it's generally most common in accessible areas. Is it a pale phase Skua of any kind? My second guess was Long-tailed, but I have a feeling you will tell me it's not a skua at all!

Storm-Petrel
Sunday 24th June 2007, 01:06

Since you are from Texas, how about Cave Swallows

If it ain't one of the above, I'll take random guesses. The only other bird you might have seen that builds nests like that is House Martin (I don't even know if you had them in Germany).

OK, this is starting to drive me more than slightly crazy. They sure look like swallows, but they aren't (Cliff, Cave, and Barn Swallows have all been eliminated, and all other NA swallows nest in cavities or tunnels). I know this is probably waaaay off, but Say's Phoebe ???

Since these birds are still in the nest would not they be "nestlings"? I believe
to have "fledged" means that they would have left the nest.

Fledglings are baby birds that have fledged, so have the potential to leave the nest if they wanted to.

To me, it just looked like the birds in the photo had not attained their flight feathers yet so would be incapable of flight at this stage.
