CP4500 and astrophotography

In the last two weeks I have been attempting some deep sky photos with my CP4500 through my 12" newtonian scope and was somewhat surprised at the performance of this camera. The attached photo is of the Orion Nebula (M42) which is in the middle of the "sword". The exposure time is around 35 seconds, set on 400 iso and the noise reduction feature turned on. 4 pictures were then stacked using REGISTAX (a free program). There are some other deep sky photos on my website. I chose to put this picture here as it looks like a bird (?).

I hadn't realised how much the electronic noise was reduced when the camera is cold.

The photos were taken at a skycamp in Thetford Forest last weekend. Next year's skycamp (March & September) is going to be held at Kelling Heath, Norfolk, UK so that will be an excellent opportunity for Birdwatching by day and Astronomy by night.

Thanks for your comments Christine. It is a remarkable coincidence that it is this coming weekend that I will be at the skycamp at Kelling Heath. I'm planning to visit Titchwell & Holme Dunes on Sunday. I look forward to seeing Sammy again.
