flash for canon 350D

Hi

considering getting a flash for my 350D, this would basically be used for nocturnal wildlife rather than for fill in work. It won't be used a lot, mainly on foreign trips and I'm not the world's keenest spotligher, so I'm reluctant to spend a huge amount of money. Basically I'm looking for lots of power and spending as little as possible. If I could keep it under £200 that would be good.
Any thoughts appreciated.

I have not tried this but if you are happy to use a manual flash (much cheaper than a flash that works with Canon's E-TTL II flash metering system), look at the Vivitar 285HV and a safe sync hotshoe adaptor (maybe not needed but not worth risking the camera!). Should be able to easily get both for less than £200 (I can get both in the US for about $140).

I recently bought a used 580EX off EBay for £185 including postage. It came without a box and stand but is in excellent unmarked and perfect working condition. Worth keeping a look out for

Hi Steve,

I use the 420EX. It's not as powerful as the 500-series, but for shorter range (< 12 meters) it's pretty good. Combined with a StoFen Omni-bounce it actually makes a more than decent macro flash as well.

Have a good look at the Sigma EF500 Super DG. Works very well with Canon's ETTL flash system.
