I want to know how many raptors the world have now and what they are.
I think somebody here must have a list of English and Scientific name of all the raptors. I really appreciate your posting it .

Many thanks.

Hi Lihu,

There's a full World Bird List been posted for the Bird Forum Great Global Bird Count, go to the second item at this link:

I presume you can find the raptors easily enough, even though the list is very long! (the list is in the Sibley-Munroe order)

Hi again Lihu,

On that list you want species 3318-3619 and also (New World Vultures) 3808-3814.

Note that several of the English names are American, not English, and may be unfamiliar.

And why would the American names be more unfamiliar, Mr. Frankis?

Hi Charles,

Because China is part of the Old World, and UK English names tend to be the more widely used in the Old World (e.g. the MacKinnon & Phillipps Field Guide to the Birds of China mostly uses UK English names).

Added to which, I fear to say, several of the US-imposed names are very inaccurate, e.g. 'Cinereous Vulture' instead of Eurasian Black Vulture, for Aegypius monachus - this bird is black in colour, not cinereous (pale grey).

Thanks, Micheal.

I will revise the English name with the widely used one in China myself.

This time I got a ospery in my birds list. So I want to know how about the world raptors. The list you introduced is helpful. Thanks.
