Hrafn, I think you owe someone a Coke and a Prince Polo (I'm not sure anyone outside Iceland or Poland knows what a Prince Polo is by the way).

And the winner is.. James Lowther! :)

This is infact a European Starling. The bird on this picture is one of two leucistic individuals from the town Grundarfjörður on the Snæfellsnes Peninsula.

The next Icelandic mystery.

Found this object on Saturday (the thing at the top, not my hand). What produced it? Extra points for identifying any of the bones in it!

I'm sure Hrafn will send more coke and Polish chocolate (Prince Polo) to the first person supplying the correct answer.

David is right, it's a Snowy Owl pellet, one of several we found on Saturday. Not exactly sure what's in it as it hasn't been analysed but rodents are very thin on the ground in this area of Iceland I imagine (there are no native rodents here, only introduced rats and mice). Their main prey is probably Ptarmigan (we saw one catch a Ptarmigan at this site three years ago), Golden Plovers and other waders and their chicks and wildfowl.

Well pink-brownish.. It is a partial albino and has the leucistic color phase.
I am attaching a bigger picture of the same one I linked to before..
