anybody out there know how to tighten the hinge bar on a pair of 8.5x44 804 swift audubon binoculars, its just a tad to loose at the moment i am hoping its a diy job, to send them away for repair would cost £40.00 inc post approx.

I don't know, but which model Audubon do you have, e.g., 804, 820, HHS?

Hello Stuart.

Don't know about this model in particular but on the majority of bins the hinge tension is increased by tightening the screw hidden behind the plug which covers the tripod mounting point on the end of the hinge.

Apologies if you already know this.

I do realise that some Swift models have the tripod mount on one barrel and not at the hinge.

My 820 8.5x44s are this design, and the hinge is a little loose. Any tips also appreciated.

Thanks,
Graham

With the tripod boss elswhere, what is there at the end of the hinge Graham?

Without knowing the design I can't be sure but I would still expect the tensioning nut to be there.

Post some pictures of the rear hinge with the cover off.
