Think you know bird songs and calls? Put your knowledge to the test and see if YOU can ID the bird represented in the sound file below! When the bird is guessed correctly I will post a new one! Please limit your self to ONE GUESS PER POST. Although the file worked for me, you may have problems listening to the files tell me and I will try my best to fix it, I think Windows Media Player is required to play the file. Thanks and good luck! The first one is easy! ;)
Note: I apologize but due to limited resources and knowledge I am only able to do bird songs of the United States. However, anyone is free to guess!

Yes! Great job to the both of you! It is a White-eyed Vireo! Don't worry about naming any background songs or calls unless it says so in the instructions. This next one may not be so easy...there are two different birds trying to outsing the other!;) Do you think you know both of them?

Accipiter91
Sunday 29th July 2007, 07:22
Wrong! Come on prairiemerlin you can do this! Your brain is becoming muddled! Clear your mind and think...you have not yet used all your options...
Accipiter91
Sunday 29th July 2007, 07:24
you are on the right track...
prairiemerlin
Sunday 29th July 2007, 07:26
Hmm... might you be considering Solitary Vireo a separate species? It was split into three species - Blue-headed, Cassin's, and Plumbeous. It can't really be anything else - there are Winter Wrens singing in the background, and no other vireos overlap in range with Winter Wren. Unless... it's not a vireo. Thanks for giving me a headache Bobby...;)

Hi Audubob,
I would not have guessed Loggerhead Shrike based on the sound, but it's my guess based on your hint. I can't recall a shrike ever making such sounds. I guess I have just heard their louder calls and song. Definitely a tricky one.

"Bird Song" Week 1 Recap
I admit I was a bit skeptical about this quiz. "Secret Bird II" was a success and so was "Animal Game". However, "Bird Search" was a flop! This quiz started off with a bang after prairiemerlin got the first "Bird Song" correct! Then after that it was a domino effect with featherbrain1223 taking an early lead. It seemed featherbrain was unstoppable until.... Progne Subis struck! From the start it was a slug fest with each of the two young birders striking back and forth at the other with furious vengance! It seemed like a stalemate was at hand until suddenly another hidden enemy struck, this time dealing featherbrain a fatal blow....school!!! Progne Subis quickly climbed to the top and now sits high on the totem pole with an astonishing 8 points! Can her iron grip be broken or will she be the points leader forever!? There is only one way to find out......keep playing "Bird Song"! Until next time....birders beware the terrible wrath....of Progne Subis....
