Hi Folks
The next day meant a realearlystart as we had to drive 45 mins to get there and needed to get some wader nets up before first light plus several others at is what is usually my most productive site throughtout the year and as it happened ,it proved me right again.
We were at the confluence of the 2 major rivers down here, the Rio Genal and Rio Guadiaro,But due to the rain that we had been having the rivers were swollen and had to change where we put the wader nets which caused some delay.
As it turned out the wader nets caught zilch and were taken down earlybut all the other nets produced the goods for my visiting ringers.
9 CHIFFCHAFFS
9 BLACKCAPS
8 WILLOW WARBLERS
1 GREAT SPOTTED WOODPECKER
1 BLACKBIRD
5 ROBINS
7 SERINS
2 GOLDFINCH
2 CETTIS WARBLERS
1 COMMON REDSTART
1 STONECHAT
4 GREENFINCH
2 SARDINIAN WARBLERS
1 GREAT TIT
1 PIED FLYCATCHER
Retraps incl the following birds
1 BLACKBIRD
1 SARDINIAN WARBLER
2 CETTIS WARBLERS
1 SERIN
This is the first indication of finch movements through our area and soon big numbers willbe passing through, many reaching Morocco as will someof the Blackcaps and Robins.
The Woodpecker was only the 2nd for me in S.Spain.7 of the 9 Blackcaps were Northern birds.
The 10th was a day out from my programme and an excursion toring on Gibraltar but more about that at another time.
