Hi All

Another early start forthe 2 lads and myself,45 mins drive to site with 7 nets to erect before first light.Today we were at the Avocado orchard by the Rio Hozgarganta.

It was unfortunately the quietest I had seen it so far this year since the time I started Ringing here.

Plus we had to close nets for a while due to more rain!!!

We were all packed up and left by 10.30 before which we had ringed just

3 BLACKCAPS
4 BLACKBIRDS
1 BLUE TIT
3 ROBINS
1 CHIFFCHAFF

Alsojust 1 retrap,an adult Female, not exactly awe inspring but some days are just like that.,I cannot complain as I have had a fantastic ringing progarmme overall this year.

For the guys final ringing day I employed a different strategy.

As it was a Sunday, went to the Rio Guadiaro Estuary site late afternnon toput up the nets in reed beds and also 4 wader nets.

10 nets altogether were employed and we ringed until midnight at least to try and catch a few waders. As it happened we only trapped one.

New birds were

4 ROBINS
1 BLACKCAP
2 CETTIS WARBLERS
7 REED WARBLERS
1 SARDINIAN WARBLER
1 WILLOW WARBLER
1 BLACKBIRD
1 YELLOW WAGTAIL
1 COMMON SANDPIPER

No retraps this session

The Common Sandpiper was an interesting bird as it was a juv undergoing regular primary moult.I suspect it will suspend before moving on or maybe extraordinarily it will stay around here for the winter or even better I will retrap it ehre in the Spring migrationwhen I can ascertain what it finallydid ,moultwise.

Only 1 Yellow Wag caught going to roost although good numbers are still being seen on the fairways of my local golf club.,and no hirundines coming to roost despite tapeluring.

Your Spanish Correspondent

P.S.The next ringer on my Spanish programme arrives on 25th.Oct for a full weeks ringing with me.Lets hopewe duck and dive between the rains and I can report some more good ringing sessions.

Should be plenty to come out of Gibraltar as I have constant coverage at the obs.through till 3rd week of Nov.,should get large numbers of Blackcaps,Chiffchaffs ,Song Thrushes and Black Redstarts in.
