Hide 'pod

Hey folks

despite buying this nice new scope(and very nice it is too thanks for the advice) there are times when I'll want to use the little midget.

Does anyone know of a good small pod that can sit on the shelves of hides etc (very useful for those family holidays where I can slip it in unnoticed!!)

I've got a Cullman shoulder pod that came with a Vikiing mini scope. It's quite handy, folds down to about 10" long, can be used as a tripod or as a shoulder pod. You can buy them seperately; I think it retails at around £20.

I also have a Cullman shoulder pod - although it could never replace a full tripod it is very useful when not out birding and it is v. small and light.

My solution is a monopod. I simply transfer my 3 way head from my tripod onto a basic 3 section monopod. I find that it's ideal in hides - you can always find something to brace it against and it can easily be used whilst seated unlike a tripod. Weighs next to nothing, and best of all I can easily carry it on my bike!

Don't use one at all! Maybe my arms are just the right length, but I rest a beanbag on the windowledge and put the scope straight onto that. Hands over the top, ready to shift focus instantly *without* the constant shake if you did the same on a tri/monopod. Steady as a rock, very fast to set-up and move, stuffs in a bag easily, doubles as padding for the scope, and costs less than a fiver!

Try it and see...

I reckon I'd only use a pod in a hide if I was digiscoping.
