Hello all,
heading to the Tate Modern this coming Saturday with some non-birding friends and was wondering whether there were any good spots close by for black redstarts? Also any advice for good birding spots in and around St James's park area? Hoping to see the Peregrines at the Tate at any rate.
Thanks,
Jo

Jo, the Peregrines are there alright. I work locally and pop down there a couple of times each week. I have only seen the pair of juveniles there, I believe that mum and dad spend a lot of time hunting. The RSPB ABB stand will give you all the info you need...
Black Redstarts?....Hmmm...would think you are as likely to see a Black Mamba as a Black Redstart! You may get lucky as they to inhabit towns, but I've never seen one in central London.
Not much around St James Park other than what you would expect. Hyde Park is probably a better get as it's far bigger.
If you are going to the Tate Modern to see the Dali exhibitiion make sure you bring your purse. They wanted £12 from me to go in, I asked which painting I was allowed to take home for that price...

There used to be Black Redstarts in disued east london dockyards. If you find any that haven't been redeveloped its worth a look I'm sure...
