In the latest RSPB Birds magazine there are a few recipes for feeding the birds over the winter, I was just wondering whether any BF member has any others they want to share with me? What types of birds do they attract etc.

A couple of them from the magazine, there were others but your all prob RSPB members so i wont list them all.

Crumble Pastry 'Maggots'

Robins, tits and blackcaps will eat these on the table - look out for the dunnocks, wrens and pied wagtails on the ground.

Ingredients
85g flour
30g lard, butter or high-fat marg (birds need the fat)

Instructions:
Put the flour in a bowl and mix in the lard with your fingers. Rub the dry mixture into little crumbly rolls that look like maggots. Sprinkle on the ground and bird table, among the bushes or in flower beds.

Speedy Bird Cake

Look out for tits, greenfinches and G-S Woodpeckers. Blue tits and great tits will be sure to feed acrobatically from the bird cake.

Ingredients
Beef suet or lard
Seeds
Nuts
Dried fruits - Sultanas, raisins etc.

Instructions:
Mix 1 part of the lard or suet to 2 parts of seed/nuts/dried fruit.
Melt or soften the suet. pour onto the seeds etc and mix well.
Drape a piece of string into a yoghurt pot/coconut shell/container of sorts and pour in the mixture. Cool and remove container/pot/cn shell.
Hang using the string.

Don't think they'd be good for your diet Steve, with all that lard in them!

Now that I have seen myself as other people see me (my new gallery pic) I think I will put myself on a diet! I've always had chubby cheeks but I look like an aged chipmunk in that shot.
Ah well, at least I can laugh at myself.B (: B (: B (:

I suppose I should do less of the above eh?
