Hi Paul, there is a thriving feral population in north Norfolk and you can put them on your list as wild (category C) birds.

They crop up all over the Norfolk Broads, don't know about other parts of the country though

What's the difference between rufous Shelduck and Egyptian geese? My book isn't very clear on this. I saw a dozen or so birds that I thought were rufous Shelduck, (Cock Marsh at Winter Hill, Cookham), but now I'm not so sure.
Any help gratefully recieved.

Egyptian Geese seen fairly regularly around this area of Berkshire. There is usually a pair that breed on an island in Southlake in the middle of Woodley.

Alan - Southlake sounds as though it might be close to Dinton, where I also saw what I thought were rufous as opposed to Egyptian - so perhaps they are the same thing - or perhaps I saw Egyptian. Mmmn - might have to rub this one off of my list until I can be sure what I saw1

Hi Paul,
Iwas at Flitcham in Norfolk last Saturday and had 30 Egyptian geese together at Abbey Road Bird Reserve. On adjacent fields were 2000 Pinkfeet.

The Swans used to stop the traffic every year walking their Cygnets from Southlake to the River Loddon by the Park and Ride. Don't know if they still do that, its half a mile.
