.....feeling very pleased with myself today - first session as trainee ringer and first go at ringing!! Two new traps ringed greenfinch and dunnock and five re-traps processed goldcrest, dunnock, chaffinch x 2 and coal tit so now feel I can post in the ringers forum :)

Quite a busy day an 11 hr stretch, approx 150 birds, won't do the list thing coz I can't remember them all! But included three redwing and a reed bunting - no fieldfare:(

Congratulations ElAnnie. I couldn't believe it when I saw the weather this morning, knowing I could have been there too. Perhaps just as well I wasn't though, 11 hrs - wow !

I hope you didn't crush any, I think I'd be a bit worried by that. I understand that some species take to handling more than others. I was told the Blue Tits are quite docile, but many others don't like it at all.

You certainly had a good selection of species. I envy the Goldcrests.

Hi ElAnnie

Pleased you enjoyed your first session. Nice variety for your first session.

I remember my first session really well. It was in a reed bed for roost over 20 years ago. We caught wrens, dunnocks and thrushes plus several tits. The target species though was reed bunting. we caught about 180. Sad thing is that site is lucky now if it catches 25 each year!
