I saw a stunning summer plumage Great Northern Diver there once, but I'm not aware of anything particularly good there as a general rule, and I wouldn't travel any distance to visit. Tatton Park would be a much better bet, if you are visiting Cheshire.

I may be a little late on this thread, but if you are visiting the area Northwich Community Woodlands is always worth considering. The site includes Marbury Country Park, Neumann's and Ashton's Flashes and Haydn Pool. At the moment it is quiet but Little Stint, Ruff etc are present as are the escaped 5 Black Swans that appear to be pairing-off leaving one frustrated individual.

Pickmere itself holds lots of commoner wildfowl in the winter but at the western end (between Pickmere and Budworth Mere) the boggy fields hold spectacular numbers of Yellowhammer, Tree Sparrow, Reed Bunting and attendant predators. It was also the temporary home for the long-staying Great White Egret and White Stork

Saw the Black Swans a bit ago, where did they escape from.

As far as I know there are no rings identifying the origins - but someone may know better!
