Pedants' Corner

Question Ten presumably refers to England and not Britain.

New Question . . .

31. Who's dying words were "Bugger Bognor"

:-O

Darrell Clegg
Wednesday 5th November 2003, 13:39
Quentin Crisp ;)

Seriously - George V 1936

Someone remarked "cheer up your majesty, you will soon be at Bognor again"
alternatively a comment made in 1929 when it was proposed the town be named Bognor Regis on account of the king's convalescence there after a serious illness

Of course it is probably apocryphal (see Kenneth Rose King George V - 1983 ch9; cf last words 455:18)

Bored yet?

Hi Darrell,

Yep, King George V - when very ill, his doctor told him "soon have you well enough to go down to Bognor", at which the King uttered the above, and expired.

Fifebirder, you are of course correct. I won't be using that source again (though I knew it was England pre-union).

Michael Pedant Frankis, I expected nothing less from your scrutiny.

Thanks to all who could be bothered :bounce:
