I picked up a Samsung GX-1L DSLR for £182 on ebay which is a good price, came with a brand new 18-55mm kit lens and camera looks new. The camera takes any K mount Pentax lenses so I'm probably going to opt for the 40mm pancake len which seems a popular one for digiscoping. The camera is basically a rebadged copy of the Pentax *ist DL2, same firmware etc.

Here's a test photo using the kit lens and just hand held up to my 17mm Baader Hyperion eyepiece on my 80mm Inpro Optigra spotting scope. Range for the photo is measured at dead on 10m and this photo has been reduced by around 50% to 800 pixels for posting. Taken on RAW on full manual mode at ISO200 with the lens at 45mm, manually focused. RAW image processed in Photoshop CS2. There is some vignetting on this eyepiece when the lens is at 18mm wide angle but it soon disappears at around 25mm.

That new equipment seems to be working well for you Paul. I wish you success and fun with it.

The feathers are very sharp and it is a very nice photograph. Original and well done ! Congrads.

Excellent results. I use the Pentax DSLR K100D with a A50mm and the M28mm lens on a Pentax PF80EDa & XW20 EP and it works great, but would recommand the A50mm(F:1.8) as your best choice and much cheaper then the 40mm. Good luck.

Thanks for the info,

I'll try a 50mm first and see how it goes.

Since getting the dslr at the weekend it's been dull and wet so here's a pic taken in the rain. Taken on manual at ISO400, F4 and the 18-55mm kit lens zoomed to 24mm and manually focused. Camera just hand held up to the 17mm Hyperion eyepiece.

Just waiting for a 50mm F2 lens to arrive in the post but early tests with the kit lens are very promising. Glad I made the jump to a dslr. Sold my Fuji F31fd on ebay yesterday for £143 which included a memory card and a spare battery. Only paid £115 for the camera on Amazon. :t:
