What focus settings should I use on my Coolpix 4500 and 885 to stop the camera focusing on the nearest object (e.g leaf)?

Hi! I used to use single AF and that would ususally pick the spot. IF that doesn't work then you need to go into the seetings and choose and actula focus area and bracketing.
Never really worked out much beyond that

Hi Lawts - nothing too technical from me, but I use AF and timer ( to prevent shake ) Once the timer has started counting down, you can adjust your scope's focus to focus on the bird - this does require a bit of patience!!!

Go to the Camera Setting Forum and use as many as you can of Andy Bright's setting, especially spot and single focus.
If you still get a problem try a cable release and hold the shutter button on half press to check and adjust focus on the bird.
