Hi Peter,
The Fuji F31 should have a 2 second timer as well. My F30 has the option of 2 or 10 seconds. Either of them is a good digiscoping camera for the money and they are both widely used.
The latest Fuji is the F50, which has more megapixels, although I don't know how good it is for digiscoping.

The F31fd does have both 2 sec & 10 sec timers (no 12 sec timer). Even the 2 sec delay is long enough for the bird to fly away or significantly change position before you get the picture.
One solution is the F31's multiple shot modes. They are also very helpful in capturing images by saving the first 3 images of a sequence, the last 3 images, or all of them.
I only recently bought my F31 so I'm still exploring its capabilities. But so far, so good.

would the multipul shot mode work on self timer?
No - you hold down the shutter button and when you release it captures the last three (- the final three setting is more use for digiscoping)

One feature of Fuji cameras that I really hate and don't understand is that they only stay in self-timer mode for ONE shot - i.e. if you want to take more than 1 self-timer shot, you have to go thru the button presses to reactivate it for each shot. At least that is how my E900 and E510 work. I cannot for the life of me understand the idea behind this design.
I had to photograph a book once using a tripod and very slow shutter speeds with my E900 and had to reactivate self-timer mode over and over and over for each shot. Got very old very fast!
Olympus and Canon cameras have it the right way - they stay in self-timer mode until you deactivate it.

For some reason I had the impression that the continuous shooting mode had to be reset after each shot, so I don't normally use it. Looking through the pdf manual I can't see any reference to that, so can anyone confirm whether the continuous mode remains selected until it is actively deselected or whether it resets when the camera switches off?
I have to agree it is a bit of pain having to reset the timer before each shot but at least it is easy to reset. I have got the 'two jabs then shoot routine' down to a fine art now.;)

Um I'll have to check but from what I can remember, on the F31 you can use top 3 continuous with the self timer but not last 3 or continuous. Continuous shooting has to be reset every time you switch from record to playback and/or turn the camera off. Self timer cancels after taking the shot. There is a setting somehwere in the menus which allows to to keep the camera turned on rather than letting it power down after a few mins of inactivity.
All these shots are digiscoped taken with the F31:

Thanks Jo. I'm at work at the moment so I can't have a fiddle with the camera to find out what happens.
If continuous mode does stay selected as long as the camera is turned, on I might give 'final three' another try. Using the 2 second timer it's amazing how many shots of headless birds I get!
Nice collection of photos you have there by the way.

I've got the F31 and I think its great !
I’ve had it for about 3 months now, I use it with a Leica 62 apo scope and always use the final 3 setting. The only thing about this camera I find annoying is having to reset it every time I turn off and on, or want to review some of the pictures I have just taken… You soon get used to this niggle tho, and I now do it automatically without thinking. Once you’ve got used to it, then adjusting the settings like this only takes a few seconds…
Here's a couple of pics I took with it last week in Shetland..
