A rare day out Digiscoping for me today, time to experiment a bit.
These two pictures were taken with full zoom on the camera.
The Grey Heron was at a distance of more than 100 metres
And the Robin at 42 metres (I paced it out)
I must say I was a bit suprised at the results.

Nikon ED82A scope with 30X DS eyepiece, Nikon P5000 camera on Macro setting at full zoom.
Still conditions with good light.

Excellent results Malc. What ISO did you have the camera at? The composition of the Robin particularly given the distance is on a par with your Kestrel shot.

Hiya John

Long time since we have heard from you on here. Have missed you.
Will go have a look for the iso setting, probably 100 or 200

Back again
Robin iso 100 at 1/300 sec f7.3
Heron iso 100 at 1/145 sec f7.7

Excellent results at distance Malc.
I've found with the P5100 that AF is reliable up to 100mm (max 120mm) but after that I'm better off with Infinity focus. Your air is probably cleaner than our's in HK.

Thanks Neil

I am trying to catch up with the quality of the pictures you consistently post.
The long shots you have taken recently are fantastic, and show us what can be done.

Had some time to experiment yesterday, and birds that sat still long enough, so tried the long shots.
Given the good conditions again, I hope I can do the same in the future.

Best wishes to you, and thanks for your postings here on Bird Forum.
