I’m looking to buy a new compact digital anyway and as this one will go onto my Leica scope, was wondering if anyone has used this model for digiscoping?

Hi Javva,

Most folks seem to like the D-Lux 2 better than the 3 as the latter suffers more from vignetting. Check out the other postings for cameras like the Nikon Coolpix P5100, or the Fuji F31d. Good luck!

Hi Jaava,

Like Jerry above, I've experienced serious vignetting when attempting to use the D-Lux 3 for digiscoping, albeit in combination with a Nikon 82 ED Fieldscope. However, I've achieved both a splendid fit and results using the Fuji FinePix E900. Since discontinued, (what isn't these days?), I'm sure they make an updated or antecedent model. Specs for the E900 can be accessed here for relevant comparisons:

I understand that many others on the BirdForum have favorable opinions of the Fuji compacts for digiscoping in general.

Best of luck to you.

Robert

Thanks loads guys. The vignetting is one thing I’ll have to consider. I’m looking for a camera to use with my Leica APO 62 scope, though right now it could be risky as I am planning an upsize to one of the new 82mm Leica scopes next year which for all I know could have compatibility issues.

If you want Leica the D-Lux 2 is the way to go for digiscoping. It should have no problems with future Leica scopes/eyepieces.
For other brands the Nikon P5100 is a good little digiscoping camera.

Thanks to you too, Neil. :t:

I recon I need to read up on this subject much more. I'll go though more of Andy's Furum. Plenty of info here.
