All are probably wrong, but it's my best offer at the moment.

Three birds have been named correctly, but no more than two by the same person

The colours look funny in pic two, that's the way they came back. I considered posting it in black and white. It was wet at the time, having just been rained on. Its a hard one, but it is a close up!
1 3 and 4 are identifiable on these pics alone...honest

Still no one better than 2 out of 4. Three speices have been named correctly. The 4th not to genus yet.
Clues... look at the tertials of number 3 and the visible lesser coverts of number 2

I will try again, I know I should have taken a longer look:
1.Tawny pipit
2.??? wing reminds me slightly of white wagtail, but all the rest doesnt fit so well
With the plant ID I think Michael is nearer, the right twig looks suspicially like a Salvinia, but the left branch shows it is something with fleshy leaves...
3.Bobolink
4.Thekla Lark

The bird that was yet to named correctly would be really easy if it was looking the other way
Steve G
Thursday 13th November 2003, 14:54

Three birds have been named correctly, the 4th is now down to the correct genus. Must just be a matter of time, there are enough clues out there.

Desert-.......aye > tertial pattern!! Should have gone to Fife Ness recently.
Jane Turner

So...
1. Tawny Pipit. Adult taken in Spain. There is a slight dark mark on the lores, but the colouring and I think shape give it away too
2. First winter female Desert Wheatear, taken a Fleetwood. Its not exactly easy to id here. This bird was a very grey one seen from in front, from behind its obviously a DW (see below). It was also insanely tame. It was under 6ft away and its still out of focus! I'll post another pic asap, the attachment thing isn't playing.
3. Its a Lap bunt... taken on Fair Isle in an easterly sleet storm. The chestnut outer web to 1st tertial was the best clue
4. A Thekla Lark taken in Extremadura Spain. Habitat was the best clue - I can do this pair in Spain but I'd always struggle elsewhere..... and a vagrant eek! The relatively stout bill and sharp, black spotty-streaks are how I picked this out at first. The crest is a wee bit short for Crested too.

The only one I was fairly confident of to start with was Tawny Pip but would also guess Thekla for the last. With all the hints the second wouldn't be Desert Wheatear would it? And on that basis the other two should be Lap and Thekla as already suggested.
