Minolta Standard vs. Standard XL (1 Viewer)

I have had a pair of Minolta Standard XL 10x50 binoculars for several years. They are fairly heavy but for me they seem to be very good quality.

I recently decided to see if I could find a pair of Minolta Standard 7x35 XL to go with the 10x50. I landed up buying two pairs of new/old stock 7x35XL off of e-bay (both were less than $50 each shipped). I gave one pair to my parents and kept the other for myself. I just realized that though both pairs say Standard XL on the boxes one pair only says Standard on the Binoculars and the other Says Standard XL. The Standard pair has a little wider field of view at 11 degree and the XL are 9.5 degree. I am curious what the difference is between the Standard and the Standard XL. My guess is XL stands for extra long eye relief. To my eyes the Standard model seems a little brighter than the Xl but that is the only thing I could notice.

The Standard set had an old price tag that said $499.50 on them.

Thanks,

David Enoch
