603 4 Digiscoping? (1 Viewer)

Anyone tried a successful combo with this little fellow?

I've been 'reliably' informed that the Samsung NV3 works a treat, but maybe one of the 'old hands' can point me in another direction?|8)|

Try reading the following link about the Kowa 602. The 603 will be identical in practical terms, except that it is angled and has ED glass which is better for digiscoping (not brighter, but will give more accurate colours with less distortion and fringing).

FWOW I have just bought an NV3, but not for use with a Kowa scope. First impressions after using it in the field are that it's excellent for hand-holding, especially if light is good, which it was on Saturday. My personal feeling is that the Fuji F30/F31fd are better cameras for digiscoping in the UK's dim lighting in winter (basically because you can get faster shutter speeds & low noise results at up to ISO800). You would do better with an adapter with these two because of the protruding zoom lens.

I estimate that the Samsung would give similar results to the Fuji cams, but at around ISO100 or 200, so you need more light to get good results. Can't see why either won't work with a Kowa 60mm scope, though bear in mind that all of these cameras are obsolete now so might take some searching for.

Does £700 sound a fair price for the scope and the zoom eye piece or does anyone know where I can pick it up cheaper (North West)

Try here:

You should do it for under £650 with one of the new twist-up eyepieces, perhaps a bit more with postage. You might find if you shop around you'll get free postage, or a local dealer that will price match.

There is a review here which is worth reading. Note that the non-ed Kowa had better resolution than the tested sample of the ed model, so it's better to actually buy the scope you look at in the shop rather than by mail-order, though you should at least have the right to return within a week or so with this way of purchasing.

Note also that the slightly larger 66mm Kowas are £10 cheaper than the 60mm models! Don't understand that!

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Steve.

£619 with 30x wide £660 with 20-60 zoom and you would get a case for £30 (half price).

** You can also get a 663 / 664 for same price as Steve has mentioned **

Phone them as their email is slow, they do claim they will be cheaper on Kowa kit than any other dealer!
