Migrant numbers (1 Viewer)

sideshow bob

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe....
I remember reading a couple of years ago, although I can't recall the source, that every spring, some 950 million individual migrant birds flood into western Europe from their wintering quarters.

I was wondering about the veracity of this claim. Is it true? How was this estimate arrived at? Or indeed, has anybody tried to estimate the numbers at all?

It's a phenomenal number, if true. I wonder what the continuing effects of climate and habitat change, especially in sub-Saharan Africa, are having on these numbers.
