ooh me Pipits (1 Viewer)

sorting through my photo backlog for my piccy site, anyone care to help with IDs?
Both taken in the same location in Wales this summer. I had assumed they were both Meadow Pipits but now I'm not sure. The one on the right was taken as the sun was setting so has different lighting.

Always ones I struggle with, as I'm never sure between Meadow and Tree Pipits.

I'd say they were both Meadow Pipits, it's just the lighting and angle that make them look different.

The rear toe of the one on the right looks long and straightish rather than more curved as on the Tree Pipit, but I'm open to suggestions !

Thanks Ian, I was a bit confused as the pattern on the wings looked different in each picture - scapulars?coverts? (I've got my Collins guide out 8-P ).

I like your observation of the rear toe, attention to detail which I still lack :t:

Thought at first, when I read you'd taken them in Wales, that they might be Rock Pipits (as I've seen loads in Anglesey) but on looking at the pix, I agree with Ian that they are Meadows. Rock pipits are a bit "smokier" and have darker legs with orange soles to their feet.

It doesn't respond to mouse clicks, it just turns round now and then. just a few seconds delay, nothing technical.
