Went for a patch walk early doors checking to see if anything had dropped in overnight and ended up with a new species but not a tick! A bird flew high into a birch and on checking I found it was either Marsh or Willow tit, in profile I couldn't see a bib at all and general impression was Marsh though I didn't see any diagnostic features and could easily be wrong. Make that probably!
Almost immediately it was off into a thickly wooded area and disappeared. Unfortunately it didn't call either.
The patch has a lot of dense wooded areas, mostly birch, hazel, willow and alder but not much swampy ground so marsh more likely?
So, I have a Marlow tit on my patch, possibly passing through, possibly part of a small population I haven't noticed before because the wood is so dense it's impenetrable!
Why I am puzzled about this sighting is it is so far from any populations I know of, nearest of either is North of Leeds or East of Wakefield. My patch is at Junction 27. Anyone know of a closer population of either?
