The theme for September 2009 is Insects.

We had 67 entries this month from which 30 have been included for members to vote upon.

Please vote for your favourite entry.

Entries can be viewed as -

1. Thumbnails
or
2. Slideshow

Voting will conclude after nine days from today after which each entry they will be moved to it's respective gallery forum.

This was very difficult for me to decide what to vote for. They are all fantastic images, but I was split between best images and best detailed images.

Trouble is the more I look at the pictures, the more I like them, but only one vote cast.

Hello, Ian, please allow me to ask a few questions:
- who decided which pic to stay and which to go?
- on what criteria?
Objectively speaking, is there a chance in 1000 that this picture be worse than this or this or this ?
Sorry i had to write this post, but this just doesn't feel right.
Please be as kind as to erase my account from the forum. This is no place for me. Thank you & see you in a better world.
PS. Please have the guts and not delete this post.

Don't be too disheartened. There's a lot of entries, almost 70 in all, and the moderators probably don't spend hours comparing each with each, so invariably some get overlooked, or don't get the attention they deserve. One of my favourites was the Downey Emerald at rest, and that didn't make the final either, even though it was a really good shot of a rare and difficult species to find, in the UK at least.

About 50% of the time I don't agree with the public vote, and 20% of the time I strongly disagree, but then that's life. It's a free competition, usually with no prizes. Just a bit of fun really.

It would be sad to loose you from BF, especially with such fine images in your gallery like the Golden Oriole and Fieldfare.

I have a feeling that you posted in the heat of the moment, and upon reflection, you may regret your post.

This is just a Bird forum that has monthly photographic competitions, it's meant to be fun. I don't know why you joined this forum, but it can't have been just for the competitions, can it? Whatever reasons you had for joining can't have vanished overnight, enjoy your time here, but don't take it so seriously.|=)|

BTW, there are forums dedicated to photography, maybe you'd be happier joining one of those as well.

I agree with the previous posts, don't be too disappointed if your shot or your favourite shot doesn't make it through to the final selection.
Ian is in a no win situation really. If he leaves all the photo's to be voted on, the number of votes the competition attracts might not produce clear winners.Someone has to make a decision on who makes the final selection and I'm sure Ian is as good a judge as anyone as to deciding. I'm sure he doesn't have any hidden agendas but I daresay he tries to balance the subject matter to make the choice wider. One of the most misleading guides is to take notice of the number of comments an entry receives, support isn't always transferred into votes !
The competition is just a bit of fun, but whilst I'm writing this I must point out you made a major error dropping my entry Ian.:-C

Wow, I've got 1.37% of the votes so far and the one I voted for has 6.85%. :t:

I hope the categories don't change as I've now got the winning pic for next year. ;)

I don't know what Fourmi is upset about, the link to his photo doesn't work. But I did notice that some of the entries were of snails and spiders which are not insects.

Afraid we've been away for a few days so I missed this query.

I can't recall the reason your entry wasn't included in the final 30 though several weren't as they didn't meet the entry criteria, some because the date taken was outside the 12 months date limit and some as they weren't insects.

As others have said though, selecting the final 30 for the voting booth does mean that some good entries don't make it to the voting stage.

Well i got this far but i got no votes |=(| never mind i think i did well to get this far with all them good photos to pic from good luck all

Keep trying! I've had a photo short-listed a few times but this is the first time I've had a vote (and it wasn't me!!). The overall quality of the entries is amazing. And I have no argument with the choices that people are making.
BTW your photo is of a banded demoiselle.

Congratulations to marhowie, with the "in Hot Pursuit". I thought it was a definite winner as soon as I saw it.

I also thought the one with the burnet moths was extremely good.

Great photos as always. Congrats to the winners and well done by all! A very good point on what is and is not an "insect". Do we have a category for Arthropods/Mollusks or in the future could we include them in a broader category with insects? Too bad the one guy quit over this, goodness it isn't the end of the world! My only beef is that we have less than 100 members that took the time to vote and recognize the great work here.

Congrats Howard, Tony and Milan! Howards "In Hot Pursuit" is a masterpiece. Very right image to take the first prize!

I could think that it is not a pleasant job to jury to choose the pics for the final but somebody has to do it. I´m glad it´s not me! These competitions are for fun and it offers us a wonderful collection of photos to watch. I have too been "angry" to the jury after it has dropped off my photo from the final. But so far I have survived these accidents... ;) God bless the folks that have to make hard decisions. ;)

Special thanks for the quintet that voted for my Bog Blue. Much appreciated!

Congratulations Howard, a worthy winner!:clap::clap:

Thanks to everyone who took part and also to those
who voted for my pic, very much appreciated! :t:
