Seen at Minsmere last Monday on a post outside the West Hide. Wing span in this photo about 5cm.

Doesn't it just p*** you off when someone comes along and does this. I have been looking for forty years for one of these Robin in my county. It's an Eyed Hawk Moth. You cannot see the eyes as they are on the hindwings which are covered by the forewing in your picture. They are only seen when the moth is disturbed and it 'flashes' them to ward off whatever is annoying it. Nice picture.

Thanks Harry/Angus. I had looked at my moth book but because it only showed a picture with the "eyes" showing I had dismissed eyed hawk moth as an option.
