7D AI Servo macro mode (1 Viewer)

Roy C

Occasional bird snapper
I know that most of the ‘real’ macro shooters use manual focus but I am a very occasional and lazy macro snapper and use AF in AI Servo mode. I have notice this year that my hit rate has gone up quite a bit due to the new 7D macro AI Servo mode. You can actually hear the Servo working overtime when shooting at macro distances.
Any one else noticed their hit rate going up ?

Not sure though - when I shoot ladybug with AI servo (7D - suppose to track a defined area) there seems to be the same DOF selection error unless the target (bug's head) is large enough.

7D's heft and faster AF seems to help a little.

I do notice however the AF has a wide tolerance - it beeps even when its only semi-sharp.

Ahaaaa.!!! Another lazy macro shooter :t:. I too am an avid user of AI Servo Roy, with the occasional manual focus when not feeling lazy LOL. Pretty well all mine are taken handheld so Servo comes in very useful. The tools are there to use so why not use them ;) Most "real" macro shooters use a tripod too but I can't be doing with that either. If it works use it..!!!!
