Rye House Marsh RSPB reserve (1 Viewer)

Hello,

I am hoping to visit Rye House Marsh RSPB reserve next week. Have there been any Bitterns or Grey Herons seen recently? Are there any other birds of special interest present?

Thank you.

Regards,

Christopher

Hi Christopher.

Rye Meads is very quiet lately. Bitterns are very rare there. They are more normally seen at Fisher's Green if anywhere.

RM was very good for Kingfisher but this year has been awful.

Herons are about and the Terns and Kestrels have been excellent.

There haven't been as many waders this year either. The water level has been very high.

Sorry if that is not very promising. The area seems better in Winter when neighbouring Amwell gets some good Ducks (Smew, Pintail, Goldeneye) and can get good gulls. It is very exposed.
