Which Nikon? (1 Viewer)

Sorry Andy, I am sure I read a thread earlier today in which someone asked you whether one of the older Nikon's was OK. In your reply you said that there were some on eBay at reasonable prices. Only try as I might I cannot find the thread, and I think I may have dreamed it! So, please accept my apologies for asking again!

Is the coolpix 950 OK. Has it got enough pixels?

Some microscopists really like the 950 (2mp) for its sharpness, but I think most people would tell you to get either the 990 (3mp) or the 4500 (4mp). Most would say that the digiscoping "standard" is currently the 4500.

Regards,

Dave

2mp yields a good and useful image from which a fair-sized enlargement can be made. Also the CP950 has a fine, large viewing screen.

So long as you frame your subject well (so don't need to do much cropping), I think you'll find 2mp sufficient for enlargements up to about 8x6 inches. Of course, for posting to a website or viewing on a PC, 2mp is far more than needed.
