Could anybody give advice on (mapped on google earth if possible) where the place referred to as Tavira Salpans is? Does it have several names etc?

Any help would be appreciated as this spot is hopefully close to where I am staying this Oct.

Thanks.

Tavira saltpans lie to the right and left of the 4 Aguas road which is the road that leads to the ferry crossing for the Ilha de Tavira, well signposted in the town.
If you're on foot all you need to do is follow the direction of the river in Tavira towards the sea, (this is the 4 Aguas road).

There's also another good area of pans behind the local market building - more or less adjacent to the Vila Gale Hotel.

Great area for birding you should do well.

Thanks for the info. It seems there are lots of saltpans in the vicinity. Really looking forward to visiting the Algarve and almost tempted to nip over to Donana but the more I read the more I am sure that the Algarve has enough even for a couple of weeks.

Thanks again.

Sleeper,

If you've got the time I'd certainly recommend a day-trip (or two) to the Donana area, it holds quite a few birds that are easier to see than in the Algarve and complements an Iberian trip very nicely.

If you decide to go and haven't much info on areas to visit PM me your e-mail address and I'll send you a google earth file I made from my visits.
