Pygmy Cormorants in Istanbul (1 Viewer)

Thought this might be of interest to those planning to do some city birding in Istanbul-

On the evenings of October 22, 24, and 25, I witnessed what seemed to be regular movements of Pygmy Cormorants along the Golden Horn. Each evening, from about 5:30-6:00pm, a few flocks constituting 100-150 birds would fly east along the southern shore of the estuary. They could be seen well from the southern side of Galata Bridge. I assume that the birds were headed towards a night roost.

These flights are apparently still taking place. At least, we also had a flock passing eastward in the evening on 23 September of this year. So well worth paying attention.
