Munich in July (1 Viewer)

Hi.

I'm going to Munich in the beginning of July, for a week.

Was thinking of going birdwatching one of the days.
I'm having trouble finding a company/guide that can offer that kind of service.

Can anyone point me to a link or contact?

Thanks
Frederico

It may be worthwhile getting in touch with the LBV (http://www.lbv.de/startseite.html), who are the regional bird conservation group.

For alpine species, I would recommend visiting the Westliche Karwendelspitze (Wallcreeper, Snowfinch) near Garmisch or the northern shore of the Eibsee (woodpeckers). The Murnauer Moos is also of interest. All of these are easily accessible by public transport.

Thank you.

I was beginning to think nobody would answer.

Regards
Frederico

Hello Frederico,

The new portal http://www.ornitho.de is worth monitoring in the interim. It reports sightings throughout Germany, by site, and targetting your destination area should not be a problem. By this method you should be able to build up your own portfolio of likely venues and species. Sighting reports from earlier years ("Database queries") would be of particular interest, but I think that you would need to register in order to access earlier data, and also possibly qualify through a minimum number of reports submitted by you.

Mail me private if you need more help on this.

Good luck

Mike Bramwell

You have different areas for bird watching.
The big lakes offer good bird watching from November/ December to April/ May.

Lake Ismaninger Speichersee near town Ismaning which is closed to airport is worth to see.

Alpine birds are good at the way to hut "Neue Traunsteiner Huette" in the National Park Berchtesgardener Land.

Interesting is also Moosenalm at Mountain Schafreuter closed to the border of Austria.

Lueg Wall near Oberaudorf offers chance for Rock Swallows, I saw 2 last week.

River Unterer Inn is rather intersting during autumn and spring migration, but have a group of Night Herons and Purple Herons near Katzenbergleiten, which is located in Austria.

No special thing are in the area of Guenzburg, but offers a high variety of birds.

I will do some tours in July there, if You want You can follow me.

Buy the way July is a great wild flower time in Bavarian Alps.

or Dr. Eva Schneider

I will do different tours in this time.
You can follow me, but I am not a professional guide.

Hi,
I can recommend all guides !
Manfred Siering might even offer birding tours in the area of lake Ismanning:
http://www.birdinggermany.de/Ismaninger.htm
He can enter areas which are closed for the public. I enjoyed a 7 hour tour starting at 6 a.m. 2 weeks ago.

Eva knows all about trees, plants and birds at Munich (especially all the places of the brown owls in the English Garden at Munich, perhaps a little bit late in July).

Chiemgau and lake Chiemsee:
you have to make boat trip (water mouth of tiroler Ache) !

Another short trip:
Just visit the Nymphenburger Park (castle, lakes) and go birding within the city of Munich.
Close to the Badenburg there is a brown owl (at a small bridge).
Best regards
Michael
