Jaisalmer: Bird/ wildlife guides + Desert NP access? (1 Viewer)

Dear Forum Members,
For mid-February 2013, we (group of 2-4) are considering a visit to Rajasthan with - among others - Jaisalmer as destination; not surprisingly, we are hoping to access Thar Desert NP - (1) with a reliable, professional guide knowledgeable about birds/ wildlife there (notably Indian bustard), and (2) without too much bureaucratic hassle (to what I have gathered, actually getting permission to visit the park sounds like a formidable challenge...). Any piece of advice/ suggestion (preferably based on recent experience) would be of tremendous help - many, many thanks in advance!
Greetings, happy Holidays and exciting sightings - Matthias

Hi Matthias, from what I understand, the requirement for permits to visit Desert National Park has now ended and there is no longer a bureaucratic hassle involved.

I was there in February with a wildabouttravel group and you do need a permit, but it is a straightforward case of turning up at the entrance and getting it on arrival.

Jaisalmer/ Destert NP - Birding/ wildlife guide

Happy New Year and many thanks for the good news! Anyone with suggestions on a good + reliable guide (we'd most probably be coming from Jodhpur)? Thanks so much in advance and all the best!
