had to mention this! - just been walking the dog alongside the river tyne, newcastle. not much to look at apart from a decent size (60-80) black headed gulls bobbing up and down the river, nothing special. using mark one eyeball however, i spotted something that didnt seem right. looked like a couple of birds were 'walking on the waters surface'! grabbed my binos and was gobsmacked to see that two of the birds were surfing - one standing on drift wood - the other on a large piece of polystyrene! i nearly dropped my binos in the water, it was comical! it was crazy watching them bobbing along past the other gulls! would of made a funny photo if id remembered to bring the blinking camera!!!

Salty,I have often seena gull trying to keep its balance on one of the marker buoys in the lagoon opp the bird hide.Very funny. The buoy kept bobbing up and down in the water, and it was like a clown using a large ball, and trying to keep his feet moving the ball along. The gull kept slipping off,but each time jumped back onto the buoy..
