Here´s a long post with some additional info regarding some birds (regardless if they´re valid or not) with the scientific name macgilivrayi … and their various commemorations:

MacGillivray No. 1:
● MacGillivray's Warbler (Oporornis) Geothlypis tolmiei TOWNSEND 1839 (synonymous with: Sylvia/Trichas "macgillivrayi" AUDUBON 1839 … as with; Sylvicola "macgilivrayi" VON WIED 1858, Geothlypis "macgillivraii" P.L.SCLATER 1860 and Geothlypis "mcgillivrayi" COOPER 1872).
● the sub-specie (Ammospiza/Passerherbulus) Ammodramus maritimus macgillivraii AUDUBON 1834.
… both commemorate (at least the I think so, it has to, since the other, following MacGillivray's was clearly too young or not even born in 1839 resp. 1834) – the Scottish ornithologist and Professor William MacGillivray (1796–1852), author of (among quite a few other books); History of British Birds, indigenous and migratory (1837–1852) and A Manual of British Ornithology (1840–1842)

MacGillivray No. 2:
● Fiji Petrel (Thalassidroma /Bulweria /Pseudobulweria) Pterodroma macgillivrayi G. R. GRAY (1860) 1859 as "Thalassidroma (Bulweria) Macgillivrayi" a k a "Macgillivray's Petrel".
● MacGillivray's Prion Pachyptila (salvini/vittata) macgillivrayi MATHEWS 1913 as "Prion vittatus macgillivrayi".
● the sub-specie Megapodius reinwardt macgillivrayi G. R. GRAY 1862.
… all three commemorate the Scottish naturalist and collector John MacGillivray (1821–1867), born on 18 December 1821 at Aberdeen, Scotland, who participated in at least two longer Expeditions starting (and ending) in London; with the H.M.S. Fly 1842–1846, exploring the Australian coast and New Guinea and on the H.M.S. Rattlesnake 1846–1850 back and forth to Tasmania – from then on spending the greater part of his life in Australia and the islands of the South-west Pacific. He died of a sudden Heart attack in Sydney on the 6th of June 1867.

Gray didn´t mention anything of any MacGillivray when he described the Petrel in 1860, but he type specimen (an immature bird, for many, many years, until the 1980's, the only one known) was collected in 1855 on Gau Island, Fiji, when the other MacGillivray's was either dead (like the former) or (as the following ones) too young or not even born. Nor did Mathews, in the description of the Prion tell anything about any MacGillivray, but according to: Warren, R L M & C J O Harrison. 1966. Type-specimens of birds in the British Museum (Natural History), vol. 1 Non-Passerines … page 170-171 (attached) the Types of both the Prion and the Megapode was collected by . "J. Macgillivray on the voyage of H.M.S. Rattlesnake."

MacGillivray No. 3:
● Purple-crowned Fairywren Malurus (coronatus) macgillivrayi MATHEWS 1913 a k a "MacGillivray's Fairywren".
● the today in-valid Generic name "Macgillivrayornis" MATHEWS 1914 (syn. Timeliopsis SALVADORI 1876/Glycichaera SALVADORI 1878).
… both commemorate the Australian physician, naturalist and oologist, Dr. William David Kerr MacGillivray (1867–1933)*, born at Kallara Station, by the Darling River, New South Wales, Australia 27th of November 1867.

More on him; see: Mathews, G M. 1919. William David Kerr Macgillivray. Austral avian record; a scientific journal devoted primarily to the study of the Australian avifauna, vol 3 (7): 175-180.

*William David Kerr MacGillivray is probably also the one commemorated in the three sub-species;
Probosciger aterrimus macgillivrayi MATHEWS 1912 as "Solenoglossus aterrimus macgillivrayi".
● (Electus/Lorius) Eclectus roratus macgillivrayi MATHEWS 1913 as "Eclectus pectoralis macgillivrayi".
Erythrura trichroa macgillivrayi MATHEWS 1914.

-------------------------

MacGillivray No. 4:
● And finally, the fourth and last; "Cloncurry Ringneck" (Platycercus) Barnardius (barnardi/zonarius) macgillivrayi NORTH 1900 (as "Platycercus macgillivrayi" ) commemorate the Australian cattle rancher and field naturalist Alexander Sykes MacGillivray (1853–1907), older (oldest) brother , of William David Kerr MacGillivray (above).

That´s them ... and "their" Birds!

PS. And just for the fun of it … a photo of one of them: William David Kerr MacGillivray (Attached).
