I live in Deal, and just heard (20.30pm) a bird repetitively calling from a tall tree beyond my garden - unfortunately unable to see bird in the dark. The call was a loud ch ch ch ch chaa, repeated every 4 or 5 seconds - any suggestions on what it is please?

I think Grey Squirrel is a very good guess. I certainly recall a nightjar survey many years ago being disturbed by what I eventually worked out was a grey squirrel. So they do chatter after dark if they have a reason to.
