Long eared owl, Formby/Altcar (1 Viewer)

Driving through fields adjacent to dual carriageway near Formby and saw an owl on the ground at side of country lane, see attached pic.

Was very surprised to see it had tufts of long eared owl. Got close enough to snap with my phone from car. Unfortunately it turned its head as I snapped it as tractor was coming. Fortunately owl took flight and wasn't injured by tractor.

Is it unusual to see long eared in area? I've only seen short eared and barn owl here before.
