Any suggestions for decent birding in the above areas would be most welcome, as indeed would any more general advice.
Thanks, Steve

Hi Steve

try Ko Phi Phi islands for frigate birds

there was a bit of forest nearby at Ban Noi Chang - might be pretty non existant now though

the forest around Khao Nor Chuchi is the Gurney's Pitta site - about an hour away

Ao Sang beach has Malaysian Pover too

the mangroves in Krabi are very good - Mangrove Pitta, Finfoot, Ruddy Kingfisher, Mangrove Blue Fly etc

the flats are good but maybe not so in August, perhaps a few very early waders. Still good for terns and egrets though

Like Tim said, all of those sites are excellent. Though not sure if Khao Nor Chuchi is still off limits in early August, probably not though. As they close off the trails during the Gurney's Pitta breeding season (which is during the early Summer). Khao Sok is also worth a visit if your in the area, it holds Banded Pitta and Asian Elephants!

A simple though useful website is at http://www.birdingthailand.com this goes through some sites, but you can alos contact the local birders there who will be more than helpful in offering you advice on the area and the latest sightings etc.

Fine weather and superb birding, enjoy!

All the best

James
